Notice of Race

1 - Rules

1.1 - The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)

1.2 - The following rules will be changed. These changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.

(a) RRS App A2 will be changed to provide that when fewer than five (5) races are completed a boats score will be the total of her race scores.

(b) RRS 26 and App A4.1 will be changed to provide that a boat starting later than five (5) minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start (DNS).

(c) RRS 35 will be changed to provide that the time limit for each race will be seventy-five (75) minutes and the Mark 1 time limit will be twenty (20) minutes.

(d) RRS 35 and App A4.1 will be changed to provide that boats failing to finish within twenty (20) minutes after the first boat finishes will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF).

(e) RRS App A will be changed to provide that a boat that does not finish or retires after finishing will be scored points for the finishing position one more than the last place finisher.

(f) RRS 66 will be changed to provide that on the last day of the regatta, a request to reopen a hearing shall be delivered within the protest time limit if the party requesting reopening was informed of the decision on the previous day or no later than 30 minutes after the party requesting reopening was informed of the decision on that day.

2 - Advertising — is restricted to Category A.

3 - Eligibility & Entry —

3.1 - The regatta is open to any boat that complies with the current NBA Class Rules.

3.2 - Skippers and crew must be in good standing with the NBA.

3.3 - The Junior Championship is open to all skippers and crew under 17 years of age on July 24th, 2008.

3.4 - Eligible competitors may enter by completing the attached entry form and sending it, along with the required fees, to: Catalina Manning; 2279 Terrace Ave; Central Lake MI, 49622; by July 8th.

3.5 - Entries postmarked or presented after July 8th will be subject to a late fee of $10 and will be accepted through the close of registration on Wednesday, July 23rd.

3.6 - SAIL NUMBERS — must either correspond to the hull number for boats with serial numbers on the transom, or be a number previously used in National events by the sailor. Priority goes to whoever first used that number in a National event. If two or more sailors register with an otherwise unregistered sail number that has not been used in prior years, the one registering first may sail with that number. No sail numbers consisting of only zeros are allowed, and the numbers from 1-99 are for the use of the host club and may only be used with their permission.

6 - Measurement Boats may be randomly selected at any time prior to the end of the protest period of the last race by the Jury to be checked for compliance with NBA Rules.

7 - Sailing Instructions — will be available at registration.

8 - Venue — will be Torch Lake near the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club, Antrim County, Michigan.

9 - Courses — will be Windward/Leeward, Triangle, and Olympic.

9.1 - An offset mark (Mk 1a) may be used when a weather leg is followed by a leeward leg.

9.2 - A leeward gate (Mks 3S & 3P) may be used at the end of a leeward leg. When used, boats shall sail between the marks and round either mark.

10 - Scoring(this applies to both the Junior and Open Championships)

10.1 - Six (6) races are scheduled, of which one (1) race shall be completed to constitute a series.

10.2 - When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boats score will be the total of her race scores. This changes RRS A2.

11 - Support Boats —Team leaders, coaches and other support personnel shall stay outside areas where boats are racing from the time of the preparatory signal for the first Fleet to start until all boats have finished or the race committee signals a postponement, general recall, or abandonment.

12 - Launching & Berthing — Launching and boat storage will be at TLYC. Trailer parking will be at several locations near TLYC. 

13 - Radio Communication — A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction applies to mobile telephones.

14 - Prizes — will be awarded as follows —

14.1 - 1st through 5th places in the Open and Junior Championships.

14.2 - Perpetual trophies.

15 - Disclaimer Of Liability — Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

17 - Insurance — Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.

RELEASEFor and in consideration of the acceptance by the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club of my entry in this regatta, I hereby accept all the risk and responsibilities of my yacht’s participation in said regatta and waive to the fullest extent permitted by law any and all claims I may have against the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club, its members, officers, directors, committees, agents and /or employees arising out of or in any way connected with such participation.  I agree to abide by the Sailing Instructions of this regatta, the Rules of the US Sailing Association, the Racing Rules of Sailing and by the Rules of the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club.

a normal part of a regatta, as any sports competitions, and authorize the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club to engage in such publicity with such information as may be provided in the course of the regatta, with the exception        I understand that the publication of results and accounts of the competition, competitors and the yachts is of personal contact information.

            I further expressly agree that the foregoing release and waiver is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law and that in any portion, clause or sub-clause hereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full force and legal effect.
