Dock Day – May 27, 2012

We look forward to seeing you all at Noon on Sunday May 27th to get the club in shape for the 2012 season.

In addition, we are going to try something new this year to welcome everyone up north during Dock Day weekend. We will have a “Welcome Cookout” at the club. At 4:00pm on Sunday May 27th, the TLYCC Board and Alumni Board Members will host a Potluck Cookout for all members. TLYCC will provide Burgers, Hot Dogs, and beverages. We would like members to bring a dish to pass (veggies, salad, or dessert). We think this will be a fun way to start off the season and say “Hello” to all of the friends that we have missed over the winter. No reservation necessary, just show up and have fun.

Spring is here – can summer fun at TLYCC be far behind?  Before you completely book yourself  with activities, plan on some time for yourself!

We would like to give you the opportunity in June, July and August to escape from meal and event planning to attend an activity just for you.

The July and August dates are July 16, July 30, August 13 and August 27 – these are open for change.

Notes from Co-Chairs:

TLYCC Membership and Volunteerism

The following letter was sent out via email to all TLYCC members on March 12, 2012:

Dear TLYCC Member,

As winter winds down, TLYCC and the Membership Committee invite you to start thinking summer! TLYCC—A club where volunteer is a verb! TLYCC has long been a place of great volunteerism. We hope that all members can find a place to get involved.

Take a look at the new committee structure we’ve listed here. There are activities for those who sail, boat, tennis, golf, read, party, or just hang out. Check out the “On the Water” and “On the Shore” Activities. Each committee area has a description. Volunteers are needed in most areas and will be GREATLY welcomed and appreciated.

Introductory? Senior? Junior? Regular? We invite everyone to get involved.

See something you like or need more information? Email us back with your choice. Got a question? Call us and we’ll be happy to talk.

You can call:

The COMMITTEES and DESCRIPTIONS are in the attached pdf: TLYCC 2012 Committees

Thanks for all you do!

Finally, Kevin Malone, the chair of the Membership Committee would like to share these thoughts with you—–

TLYCC MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE LETTER:

At the 2011 Annual Meeting Art Brereton closed his remarks with this thought:

“Go out and get someone you think is a good fit to join the club. This club, more than anything else is the sum total of its members. If you want to make a difference, nothing does more than this.”

The heart of our club is the membership. This seems self evident, but is a value easily forgotten, and the topic of this letter.

Our club’s ability to flourish over the generations is a direct result of our historic ability to attract a diverse group of members who have valued and supported the Club’s volunteer ethos.

Similarly, new members have always underlain the Club’s financial viability. The membership diversity we value is partly a function of affordable dues, to keep the dues reasonable we need a steady supply of new members.

The TLYCC membership committee has recently been re-constituted with a broader charter, and new faces. Our goals are to attract new members who will support our volunteer culture, move our current membership count (207 active, including 22 Senior, 14 Introductory, 40 Junior and 131 Active Regular) closer to our cap of 240, and help Introductory members acclimate to the Club more easily.

Our committee is writing to you to make you aware of who we are, to ask for your help in carefully growing our membership, and your assistance in helping new members fold into the Club family.

A few points on our membership policy:

  • Currently we have 207 active members; the cap is set at 240.
  • Membership policy has changed to accommodate our lower census and now allows for a REGULAR member to sponsor new members once each calendar year.
  • In the past there has been a calendar deadline for application. Applications are now accepted on a rolling basis, without a deadline.

Please give some careful thought to inviting new people to the Club. Feel free to contact any of us with questions on the Club’s membership policy, or comments on our process.

Art’s comments were right on the money; please help our efforts to strengthen the Club’s membership base.

Sincerely,

The TLYCC Membership Committee:

Kevin Malone, Chair

Kitchen Update & Survey Results – February 5, 2012

It almost feels like spring here today (44 degrees), it seems like summer is just around the corner!

As you all might know, the board sent out a survey this fall to get feedback on the food service and kitchen at the Yacht Club. A big thank you to everyone that took the time to fill it out and pass us your feedback, this is the best way to ensure the club meets as many member’s needs as possible.

One of the things that make The Club such a special place is the diversity of the membership. This also can make it very difficult to please everyone all of the time, but the board is determined to make everyone’s time at the club enjoyable. Along with this kitchen update, we are posting the survey results. There are a small number of comments that have been redacted because we felt they were personal comments about specific staff members that were not appropriate to share with the public.

Fall 2011 Dining Room Survey Results

Updates: many of these changes are a result of the survey; some are just year to year adjustments.

* Bob Rodriguez will be back and in charge to the kitchen this summer

* Members seem very excited about renovated, really clean kitchen.

* In addition to our traditional kitchen workers, Bob/we are hoping to hire a couple of interns from the NMC Culinary program.

* Will try to have more “kid friendly” options for both lunch and dinner.

* Will have scooped ice cream available.

* Will have fries available.

* Will return to buffet dinners. Members seemed to really like the social aspect of buffet dinners.

* Will have more homemade desserts with dinners.

* Will have more extensive brunch (more meat, fruit, etc)

We are still trying to work out many of the details, but we are excited for another summer. We are also interested in any feedback you might have. Please feel free to contact me at dennym@glit.com.

Thanks & looking forward to another great summer,

Denny Malone

E Nationals Kudos

Dear Club Members:

As E National Regatta Co-Chairs, we would like to close a very successful year with a Thank You to all of you. So many Members and their families and friends contributed to make the Regatta a great success. Not only do we think so, everyone who attended said the same thing, “Great job, well done!” You don’t need to believe us, read the attached compliments from the NCESA, sailors and the volunteers who staffed the race committee.

We’ll see you all next summer.

Old Man of the Hills – December 31, 2011

The OMOTH committee got together over Thanksgiving. The 2011 OMOTH will be held on Saturday, December 31st, 2011. We are holding it on the 31st this year as some people have to leave on New Year’s Day.

Please sign up at the Ski School Desk no later than 11am. Tell them you are with the TLYCC/Old Man of the Hills group. They will give you your number. The cost is $6.00 for two runs. You can make unlimited runs for $10.00, but only the best time on one of your first 2 runs will count.

The racing will start at Noon. You have until 3pm to complete your runs. The race will be held on Good Knight at Schuss. This is the NASTAR race hill. It is open to both skiers and snowboarders. If so inclined, you may participate in both categories, but you will have to pay twice.

It will be a wide open NASTAR course that virtually any skier/boarder can negotiate. We need participants of all ages. The “Old Old Woman” category has not had any participants for the past 4 years. This is 60+ for anyone that is interested and willing to admit they are in this age group. We were also missing  “Young Woman” participants last year. This is the 19-39 age group.

Please bring an appetizer to share. The Club will provide beverages, brats and hot dogs. We will set up the food at the bottom of the Yellow chairlift near the parking lot. This is a great event and we would like to see all members that are up for the Holidays participate. Non-racers are certainly welcome to attend the festivities.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks.

OMOTH Committee: Amy & Dan Crites and Kelly & Joe Honer
