E Nationals Kudos

Dear Club Members:

As E National Regatta Co-Chairs, we would like to close a very successful year with a Thank You to all of you. So many Members and their families and friends contributed to make the Regatta a great success. Not only do we think so, everyone who attended said the same thing, “Great job, well done!” You don’t need to believe us, read the attached compliments from the NCESA, sailors and the volunteers who staffed the race committee.

We’ll see you all next summer.

Old Man of the Hills – December 31, 2011

The OMOTH committee got together over Thanksgiving. The 2011 OMOTH will be held on Saturday, December 31st, 2011. We are holding it on the 31st this year as some people have to leave on New Year’s Day.

Please sign up at the Ski School Desk no later than 11am. Tell them you are with the TLYCC/Old Man of the Hills group. They will give you your number. The cost is $6.00 for two runs. You can make unlimited runs for $10.00, but only the best time on one of your first 2 runs will count.

The racing will start at Noon. You have until 3pm to complete your runs. The race will be held on Good Knight at Schuss. This is the NASTAR race hill. It is open to both skiers and snowboarders. If so inclined, you may participate in both categories, but you will have to pay twice.

It will be a wide open NASTAR course that virtually any skier/boarder can negotiate. We need participants of all ages. The “Old Old Woman” category has not had any participants for the past 4 years. This is 60+ for anyone that is interested and willing to admit they are in this age group. We were also missing  “Young Woman” participants last year. This is the 19-39 age group.

Please bring an appetizer to share. The Club will provide beverages, brats and hot dogs. We will set up the food at the bottom of the Yellow chairlift near the parking lot. This is a great event and we would like to see all members that are up for the Holidays participate. Non-racers are certainly welcome to attend the festivities.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks.

OMOTH Committee: Amy & Dan Crites and Kelly & Joe Honer

E Nationals Follow Boats

As you should know by now, TLYCC is hosting the “E” Nationals Regatta on September 9, 10 & 11. One of the responsibilities of the host club is to provide follow boats. Bob McLean and I are the Co-Chairs for the Follow Boat Committee. Bob and I are looking for volunteers to a supply a boat and a driver for the follow boat fleet.

We will need a minimum of 12 boats, but will take any & all that are interested. The duties of a follow boat are to follow the races and lend assistance to any sailboats that might need. It’s a great opportunity to be out on the water, see the races and provide valuable assistance should the need arise.

If you have already volunteered for the Regatta, thank you. If you haven’t volunteered yet, please consider signing up for follow boat.

If you would be interested in participating, please contact Bob or me as soon as possible. Our contact information is as follows:

WMYA Results

Four long time MC and C boat rivals joined forces to sail TO-0 at the Westerns at Crystal Lake. Masterminded by Ted Keller, the team consisted of Ted, Pete Comfort, Jamie Kimball, and Cam McNeil. The first two days had Ted up front and Pete in the middle, and Jamie steering. They ended tied for 1st going into Saturday. Jamie had a previous commitment, so Pete slide into the driver’s seat and Cam McNeil became the workhorse in the middle. Saturday the E’s have 2 races, and this is the day the regatta is traditionally won or lost. Jamie’s parting comment to Pete as he left was “Just get us in a position to win on Sunday. Well, while other contenders were self destructing, Ted, Cam, and Pete all but put it away, giving Jamie a 7 point lead going into Sunday. They were the only boat with all 4 races in the top 5,   showing very consistent sailing in very tough light air conditions. But  the boys still hadn’t won a race . Jamie took the tillers on Sunday and the team took care of that, winning the only heavy air race of the contest. It was a great team effort, very fun to watch, and a well deserved win. Congratulations!

Also Wade Lorimer did a fantastic job to come in 4th in a very tough Junior Butterfly fleet.

Ted and Pete also “duked it out” in the MC’s. Pete won the 1st race and was 2nd going into the last day, with Ted right on his heels. Pete had a tough Sunday and dropped to 9th, but Ted finished 3rd overall.

Congrats to Wade, Ted, and Pete for a great Westerns. Also thanks to Pete and Ted for all they have done for the sailing school  this year. I would highly recommend a private or group lesson for them. It will definitely help your sailing!!!
